We have a lot to be grateful for, in the aftermath of the flood. Our friend K.’s apartment was inundated by the Cumberland River yesterday, most of her belongings were ruined. Our friend D.’s office was destroyed. Both sites are just a couple miles from our front door.
They have the greater challenge, to find and focus on their own gratitude. But we’re all lucky to be here.
Amor fati, sure; but pass the sandbags and pass some legislation to make things a little less unfair for the relatively-less-lucky. Jimmy Buffett told his audience here Sunday night: “we [the Coral Reefers & parrot-heads] are a lot more fun in a natural disaster than the insurance companies.”
“Act of God” – ? Give us all a break.
