No batmobiles on the yellow brick road

If heaven’s not a lot like PNC Park last night I don’t want to go.

If hell’s anything like yesterday’s weekly staff meeting I definitely don’t want to go. At least we finally voted, and decided something. Usually we just talk ourselves into irresolute submission. You wouldn’t think interminable, inconclusive discussion would be a philosopher’s conception of hell. (Socrates said it was pretty much his idea of heaven, but of course he was making the best of a terminal situation.)  Then again, you’ve not been to one of our meetings. Our penance for being professional talkers, I guess.

And yet…

I don’t want to go anywhere but school today, where midterm group reports begin in CoPhi. Students were free to select just about any topic they might choose. Our leadoff reporters chose Batman (“How does this caped crusader measure up against the teachings of Plato, Aristotle, Kant, Kierkegaard, and Lao Tzu?” Blackwell) and the Wiz (not Ozzie, Dorothy & friends).

Why would anyone want to leave the Emerald City for Kansas? Or Gotham? They don’t make ’em like this anymore, kids.
